Auction Digital Downloads: Single-Use + Time-Limited Access for Winning Bidders
Selena Cayabyab
We’d love to see enhanced support for digital downloads as auction items, specifically:
- The ability to restrict the winning bidder to a single download
- The option to set a time limit on how long the download link remains active
Right now, this level of control isn’t built into the digital download experience, and it’s difficult to reliably replicate it with standard cloud storage alone.
One possible approach: Givebutter wouldn’t necessarily need to host the file itself. Instead, the platform could manage access logic as a pass-through layer:
- Has the user won the bid? → If yes, grant access to the download link
- Has the user already downloaded the file? → If yes, deactivate the link
Optional: Expire access after a configurable time window
This would provide stronger fulfillment controls for auction-based digital items while maintaining flexible storage.
Would love to see something like this added, especially for organizations running virtual or hybrid auctions.
